The 2025 Tournament
The Smoking Bats are on a Roll
You got to love the Smoking Bats. They won the Women's Division at the 2025 Mike Reid Memorial Softball Tournament, and it was their fourth division win in a row. Congrats to the team and congrats to Joelle Galais for winning the Women's Division M.V.P.
On the Men's side, The Saints won the A Division over The O's and Scotyz Dawgers won the B Division over the Mavericks. Dave Reddick was the tournament MVP and Don Marlow won the Tom Walls Pitching Trophy for the second time.
New to the tournament in 2025 was the addition of the pitcher's cage, a net that a pitcher can step behind, for protection from hit balls. The idea was a bit controversial, but everyone got the point. Use of the nets was optional and used by about 50% of the pitchers. Observations after the tournament is that they were effective and they worked. Several players were spared from serious injury.
The entire 4-day tournament was subject to insane heat but as far as we know, there were no casualties. Most people preferred playing in the sun rather than rain.
Many thanks to the organizers and everyone else involved in our 41st tournament. It was another perfect weekend.
